AstroClown FAQ's
Q: What is AstroClown?
A: AstroClown is a totem of the human animal. It's the distillation of a belief system into an icon. Not simply art for arts sake.
Q: What is the belief system it represents?
A: The belief system it represents is a combination of Nihilism, Absurdism and Existentialism. Nihilism is the philosophy that life is as you see it; disease, famine, pestilence, sex, fun, art ad nauseum. It is antithetic to religion. Absurdism is best summarized as every act is meaningless in an absurd universe. For instance this interview is Absurdist. Existentialism is similarly a philosophy defined by the nature of existence precluding an existence beyond this one. All three are generally antithetic to religious beliefs which include an afterlife.
Q: That explains the clown, what about the astronaut?
A: The astronaut is the escape clause in the philosophical structure. It represents the notion that human beings can exceed the nature of existence through invention, through intellect, through technology. The astronaut represents the idea that humans can go somewhere else and escape and thereby exceed the tedious unrelenting phenomenon of extinction, of non existence. If extraterrestrials visit, they'll study art, not propulsion systems.
Q: Why are you such a bummer? Is it the pessimistic view that space travel will never be more than a man in a can?
A: For fun, it's like pissing on someone's shoes while offering an icon which embodies the act. It's like saying, "Here's a definitive explanation of everything at very good value, including shipping and handling. Outside of Christ on the cross there has never been an icon so readily accessible to the masses at their time of uncertainty. I, myself, wonder if on my deathbed, I will turn to religion or say "fuck it, dust to dust, period."
Q: You're a jerk. How come?
A: Well, because of Physics, primarily. My consultants tell me that space is so unimaginably great that unless we exceed our current knowledge, our current understanding, we cannot go anywhere meaningful. That notion, and the reality that when science discovers the origins of the universe it will become religion that led me to this product. We need to go way, way, way faster than the speed of light, which Einstein says can't be exceeded, so that we can get to the edge of the universe. And then all we'll see is an explosion, the Big Bang. You can hear it still, if you have a machine to listen. All this considered, this product pretty much makes sense for everyone. And it's reasonably priced.
